Briar McLeod

Kaiāwhina ture | Law Clerk

Kia ora, I’m Briar and I am proud to have joined the team at Tiaki Family Law in March 2026. I grew up in Lower Hutt before spending several years living and working in Melbourne, Australia. I later returned home to study law at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, where I recently completed my Bachelor of Laws and I am now working towards admission in June.

Before studying law, I spent many years in people-management roles across a range of environments. Working closely with people from many different backgrounds taught me the importance of empathy, clear communication, and remaining calm when situations become challenging. Those experiences continue to shape how I approach my work and support people navigating difficult circumstances.

Coming to law later in life, family law felt like a natural fit. It is an area of law where advocacy sits alongside empathy and understanding. Many people encounter the family law system during periods of conflict or uncertainty, and I am motivated by the opportunity to support clients through these moments while helping them better understand the process and their options.

I am also strongly motivated by the importance of fairness and meaningful access to justice. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to receive clear guidance and support when facing legal challenges, and I value contributing to work that helps people feel heard and supported during times of change.

Outside of work, I spend as much time as possible outdoors with my partner and our blue heeler, Pepper. I also spend a lot of time with family, often cooking and sharing meals together, or exploring restaurants around Wellington.
